Artist Statement

My paintings are inspired by being outdoors and active. I love to walk through that landscape which continually offers new and unexpected moments of inspiration. I capture these experiences by taking photos, making sketches, even sound recordings. I take these elements, along with my memory and  experience of the place back to the studio.

I then combine these elements together to make paintings, daring to juxtapose different things together and see what happens, and keeping my love of exploring alive by being playful and experimenting with different materials and processes. I build each painting in layers to create depth. My initial layers begin intuitively, using a variety of different mixed media and expressive mark-making. I then develop the painting with acrylic, seeing an image emerge from the initial layers. I finish in oil paint, using glaze to add further depth and bring out the vibrant colour I love so much.

I view life as an adventure, so I want people to discover things in my paintings that aren't immediately obvious, things that spark curiosity. I want people to experience a sense of freedom, connection, wonder and beauty in my work.

About the Artist

Angela is a mixed media painter, working from her home studio in Hertfordshire.

She’s had a lifelong love of art and is an adventurer at heart, with a deep love for the outdoors and a lifelong curiosity for exploration. She grew up with the sea a few miles away in one direction and mountains and lakes in the other. Her childhood was spent largely outside—creating imaginary adventure games in the garden, exploring with friends, or immersing herself in stories of far-off places. These early experiences shaped both her sense of wonder and her desire to explore the world around her.

Alongside this love of nature, Angela discovered a passion for art at a young age. It started in school where the art room became a place of refuge and inspiration, and she initially planned to pursue art college after school. However, her curiosity led her along a different path and she decided to study Theology instead. Her love for art was never far away, with  her studies culminating in a final paper exploring spirituality in the visual arts.

She has worked in a variety of different fields, sometimes art related at other times not. In the arts, she has trained and worked as an Art Therapist, deepening her understanding of how art can connect, heal, and communicate what words often cannot. She has been active in leading community art projects, including designing and coordinating large scale public murals, with community engagement.

With a growing desire to focus on developing her own practise, in recent years, she has furthered her art training  by completing a Certificate in Painting' at Art Academy London. While this strengthened her technical skills, she was left searching for her own artistic voice. That clarity came through the Mastery Program with Milan Art Institute, where a focus on personal vision and authenticity helped her discover not only the type of art she wanted to make, but who she was as an artist.

Angela is now a mixed media painter, known for her vibrant colour palette and expressive mark-making. Her work is inspired by colour and by being outdoors. As she moves through a place, she remains open to discovery, gathering inspiration through photographs and quick sketches, even sound recordings, which she brings together in her studio to make paintings.

Her work conveys a sense of freedom, authenticity, and joy. It invites the viewer to be curious, to look at what’s beyond the surface and get lost in a different world. It invites the viewer to experience a sense of freedom, connection, wonder and to be captivated by beauty.

She has recently participated in Art Surrey.
